It consists of 5 elements: 2 required fields and 3 optional fields. Among the optional settings, you can define whether the transition between images will be manual or have an automatic transition time assigned, and add alternative text (for accessibility) that can be recognized by screen readers.
Key facts1. Transition Time
• Optional.
• Available only for the Web channel.
• Default value: 3 seconds.
• Maximum allowed value: 60 seconds.
• To disable automatic transition: set to 0 seconds.
2. Title
• A title is required for each slide.
3. Alternative Text:
• This is an optional field where you can add a brief description of the image’s content, limited to 100 characters.
• This applies only to the web channel; although it won’t be visible in the chat window, its purpose is to ensure that assistive technologies, such as screen readers, can interpret it correctly, so we recommend filling it out.
• It is defined on a per-image basis, not for the entire carousel.
4. Image
• Required.
• You can upload images up to 2 MB from your device.
• Supported formats: JPG, PNG, and GIF (GIF only on the Web channel).
• On the Web channel, there is no limit to the number of images, but it's recommended to consider usability and user experience when deciding how many to display.
• For better display: use uniformly sized images in horizontal format.
5. Button
• Optional: You can create a carousel with just images or include buttons as needed.
• If you choose a Message button, it must be linked to an existing intention in your content.
• If you use emojis on buttons, you should review the list of all emojis that are compatible with and recognized by the platform, as well as how to add emojis to buttons.
• If the intention includes an emoji, do not repeat that emoji in the button value field, as this will invalidate the complement.
• You can add unlimited buttons per image, though a maximum of 3 is suggested to ensure compatibility with Facebook Messenger.
On WhatsApp✓ Due to the specifics of the channel, on WhatsApp, carousel images configured using this complement from the Virtual Assistant platform will appear one below the other, followed by the corresponding button information. This means the expected carousel effect is not generated.
✓ Also, Message buttons appear as plain text and do not automatically redirect to the associated intention.
✓ To implement it effectively, if you are using the Engage platform, we suggest checking out this content: Create Engage Message Templates for WhatsApp.
You can also check the specific formats of each complement in Facebook Messenger.
